About Me

FotoI’m Anne.

I was born October 2nd, 1980 near Cologne, Germany which makes it very easy to remember my age when someone asks me. I only have to get the decades right and find out whether it has been October yet.

I majored from high school in French and Biology. The first because I really liked it, the second because of weird genetics. I think. It seems to run in the family.

I then went to university and tried myself in musicology, art history, ethnology, American literature and linguistics and sociology. In no particular order. Then I had this fancy idea of earning money at some point at my life and decided to quit.

I am a software engineer now. I survived COBOL and was rewarded with C# and Silverlight. I love throwing away code, because it means that I found a better way to do it.

I am passionate about usability and interface design and might dream about frantically running through the office hallway while trying to find the best way to implement lists in lists.

Foto2Words I’d use to describe good design: sleek, cool, intuitive, easy, clean. Words I certainly wouldn’t use: sexy, wow.

In all these years I successfully moved up and down along the Rhine, making sure never to leave the borders of Northrhine-Westphalia. That was, until I got a cool job offer to develop software for dentists. I now live in the not exactly lovely town of Hanau, but will fight for the honor of my hometown Cologne whenever someone freaking asks for it.

Among other things, I love reading, watching TV, discovering new things on the web, playing with my food and ignoring bananas.

About this Blog

Here Be Subtlety started out as The Wonderful World of Jamie on Blogger before it became Here Be Subtlety. It lived on WordPress for quite a few years before packing up and moving to Squarespace. Now it’s moved back to live on WordPress, just because. It’s a little bit dead right now but the content stays relevant, so here it is.
